Back-to-School
Survival Guide

The start of a new school year can be a hectic time for kids and parents. Use this handy cheat sheet to help you manage your time and stay stress-free while keeping your children at the head of the class.

Tip #1 - A+ in Biology.

Schedule doctor and dental checkups before the school year starts. This helps make sure your child is feeling good and ready to start the new school year, plus keeps them up-to-date on necessary vaccinations.

Tip #2 - Make a quick and easy menu.

Save time in the evening by cooking meals with shorter prep times. Check out some of these fast, delicious and healthy recipes featuring Shady Brook Farms® 99% Fat Free Ground Breast of Turkey.

Tip #3 - Smart, stress-free supplies.

First, see if any supplies can be reused from the previous year. Once you know what you need, go shopping on a weeknight when the stores are less busy and you'll be in and out before you know it. Even more convenient? Shopping online.

Tip #4 - Reestablish daily routines.

Family schedules can get crazy during the summer, so get your children back to a normal routine by bringing back mealtimes and bedtimes at least a week before school starts.

Tip #5 - Stay informed.

Make sure to read all material sent home by the school as soon as possible. Don't miss out on important information about your child's teacher, room number, school supply requirements, sign ups for after-school sports and activities, school calendar dates and more.

Tip #6 - Turn off the TV!

Before school starts back up, encourage your child to take TV and video game breaks to play family games, do puzzles, study flash cards, color or read. This will help ease them back into the routine of school and homework.

Tip #7 - Designate a homework area.

For younger children, set up a homework area in the kitchen or living room where you can keep an eye on them, encourage them and easily assist them when they need help. Knowing that a certain place is for homework can help them stay motivated and on task during homework time.
